On top, down under

Former Cutters ’98 player Beverly Thomas and her father Jeff, who was most recently coach of the ’02 girls team at Cutters, have landed on their feet in Melbourne, Australia.  Jeff is coach of the South Melbourne Women’s Football Club U16 team, and coordinator of Junior Football for the club.  He’s coaching his daughter for the first time since, he thinks, she was under 7 and playing Cutters Community Soccer.
SMWFC won their pre-season tournament this weekend, winning the final 6-3 and with Beverly scoring a goal in each of the last three games of the tournament.  Jeff describes his team as “probably able to give either of the local Bloomington high school teams a run for their money.” He’s borrowed from Cutters RMA training methods which are new to Australia and also organized set plays for his team, which he said not many local youth teams bother to do and “we are causing chaos on almost every attacking corner as a result.”
Beverly and her siblings Gavin and Melissa all attend the same (six-year) high school in Elwood, Victoria.  They proudly wear their Indiana, Cutters and Bloomington soccer shirts around town, although both SMWFC and the local Brighton Soccer Club Gavin and Melissa play in blue rather than the familiar red they have only ever known before.

Inaugural Cutters Charity Casino Night - March 29th

Purchase Tickets Here

The Cutters Soccer Club will be hosting the Inaugural Cutters Charity Casino Night on Saturday, March 29th from 6:00-10pm at the Liberty Ball Room & Banquet Center, located at 2100 Liberty Drive.

Tickets can be purchased prior to March 5th for $45 each. Starting March 6th this will increase to $50. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $55. Proceeds of this event will go to the Cutters Outreach Program. The Outreach Program is a free soccer program that currently serves over 300 children ages 6-18. Outreach serves children enrolled in summer and after school programs through all three locations of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monroe County, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Monroe County Community School Corporation School Age Care Program, and programs offered through area churches and smaller groups. Outreach also serves children who participate in the Cutters TOPSoccer Program. TOPSoccer provides young athletes with special needs the opportunity learn and play the game, but more importantly enables them to become valued and successful members of the soccer community. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $4,500.00 through this event.

The event will include gaming such as black jack, craps, and roulette. Everyone who purchases a ticket to the event will be given  ”funny money” in the form of casino chips. Additional chips can be purchased if you run out. At the end of the night you will be able to exchange your chips for raffle tickets. We will have many prizes available that you will have an opportunity to win through the raffle. There will be food provided for all attendees, as well as water and soda. There will be a cash bar for beer and wine.

This event is open to the general public, so we hope you will consider inviting friends, neighbors and family members who may not be directly involved with Cutters. In order to make this event a success, there is a significant need for volunteer support. To see all the volunteer opportunities and to signup, please click on the link below:

Shop With Scrip Fundraising Program

Fundraise While Shopping for Everyday Family Purchases

Scrip Fundraising through Great Lakes Scrip Program

The Cutters Soccer Club has become a member of the Great Lakes Scrip Program.  By using the Great Lakes Scrip Program Cutters’ families can earn money toward Cutters fees and team expenses by making their regular household or gift purchases.  But instead of paying with cash or credit, they use gift cards or certificates from America’s favorite and most trusted retailers.

The Purchase Discount is deposited into the Families’ Cutters Account.  The Great Lakes Scrip Program provides scrip programs for schools, churches and non-profit organizations by offering discounted gift cards and certificates for members’ everyday purchases.  Cutters members purchase the retailer gift cards at face value through the Great Lakes Scrip website or through the Cutters Scrip Coordinator, Pam Wilson.  The amount of the purchase discount is then deposited in the Cutters Scrip account.  The Cutters Scrip Coordinator will then deposit the member’s share into their personal Cutters account.  Each members Cutters account can then be used for payment of Club or team expenses.  Every purchase is discounted.  The value of discount will vary depending upon the retailer and the particular discounts that they may be offering at a given time.  Typically, the range is from a low of 2% to as much as 15%.  The retailer’s discounts are always displayed at the Great Lakes Scrip website,

The Scrip Program has Agreements with over 500 of the Country’s Biggest Brands. The attractive feature of the Great Lakes Scrip Program is that it has agreements with over 500 of the country’s biggest brands and retailers, many of which are in the Bloomington area.  Please see the Scrip Brand List at the following link:  You’ll find cards you can use at grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, movie theaters, home improvement stores, and almost any business that accepts gift cards. Virtually anywhere you shop will accept some form of Scrip.  The Club has established individual agreements with Bloomingfoods and Marsh grocery stores.  Marsh and Bloomingfoods will be administered by Pam Wilson.  The Club currently has an agreement with Kroger through the Kroger Cares Program, administered by Anne Veldman.

The Operational Aspects of the Scrip Program are defined.  The Club will institute a trial program during the upcoming holiday season.  Families may open scrip accounts beginning 29 November 2013.  Please see the flowcharts listed below that describe the operational aspects of the Great Lakes Scrip Program for Cutters’ shoppers.

What are Club and Family Earnings?  We are proposing that initially the earnings from the Great Lakes Scrip Program be split 30% to the Club and 70% to the member family from the Travel or Community Soccer program making the purchase.  As more members use the program to make purchases, the percentages will be adjusted in favor of the families.  We will evaluate the program at the conclusion of the test run (probably January 2014) to determine its future utility.  No changes will be made to the Kroger Cares Program.  This program has significant potential so we hope Cutters families will try it and give it serious consideration!

Cutters Soccer Club and Meulensteen Academy announce a special partnership

August 6, 2013
Bloomington, Indiana—Cutters Soccer Club is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement to partner with Meulensteen Academy.

SportpartnersNL (Netherlands) and Meulensteen Academy (MA) have earned a European-wide, sterling reputation for offering reliable and high quality soccer training services throughout their 14 years of conducting business. Cutters SC is now proud to offer the same expertise to the US market via this partnership with SportpartnersUSA and Meulensteen Academy. The Meulensteen Academy organization presents professional expertise of people working in soccer coaching as well as soccer education.

This partnership allows the Cutters Soccer Club to offer training in the Meulensteen Academy methods, philosophy, and instruction programs. Specifically, Cutters SC will offer the “Moves and Skills” Player Development Curriculum developed by Coach Rene Meulensteen, current Head Coach at Anzhi Makhachkala SC, Russia and long time First Team Coach of Manchester United (2008-2013).

Rene Meulensteen, commonly regarded as one of the best soccer trainers in the world, developed the “Moves & Skills” method to improve the skills of the modern soccer player at any level. The program’s goal is the development of creative, unpredictable, confident, and motivated players. At the center of the “Moves & Skills” method is the ability of a player to master the challenge of various 1v1 situations. Continue reading about Cutters partners with RMA

Cutters Juggling Club

The Cutters Juggling Club has been established to inspire players to practice on their own, set goals, and improve their technical soccer skills.

Why Juggle?

A player’s touch and feel for the ball is vital in soccer and juggling is one of the best exercises to learn how the ball reacts to different parts of the foot and body.  Juggling also helps to develop body control, core strength, and balance while providing a good work out.  All that’s required is a ball, a small space, and some determination.  Players that progress through the Cutters Juggling Club Levels will undoubtedly experience improved success in their soccer matches.   Have fun and good luck!

1.  Players may only use their feet. Touches with the feet count toward the total number of juggles. The count must return to zero if the ball hits the ground. All other body parts can be used (except hands) but they do not count toward the total number of juggles. (Ex. If a player uses their thigh to keep the ball in the air it will not be counted, but the players can continue their count with the next touch with their feet. One foot, two foot, thigh, three foot would count as three.) Continue reading about Cutters Juggling Club – New!
