 Dear Cutters Families,
We are pleased to inform you that the Cutters Soccer Club has now officially moved into a newly renovated space at the Bloomington United Soccer School. We wish to thank Tommy Berry for his support and willingness to share the facility. We also owe a great deal of gratitude to a number of organizations that aided us in this process. First, we would like to thank Rob Hochstetler and Tom Isom with Hoosier Energy for their work in helping to get the renovation completed at no charge to the club. General Interiors put up new drywall and painted the office, while Alexander Electric performed all the necessary electrical work. Both companies donated their labor as well as the materials and did an outstanding job. Continue reading about Cutters Office Update

Former Cutter teammates and current Cutter coaches Emma Winkler and Maggie Richards were both recently announced by Indiana University as recipients of the Wells Scholarship. The scholarship, created in the name of the late IU Chancelor Herman B Wells, is considered to be one of the most competitive and prestigious in the country. Emma and Maggie were among 16 other recipients nationally and are now among only 460 recipients to receive the scholarship since it’s creation in 1990. Wells Scholars receive full tuition, course fees, and a living stipend for four years of undergraduate course work on the Bloomington Campus.
Maggie and Emma both grew up playing in the Cutters Soccer Club for the competitive 93 Girls under current Cutters coach Kari Rickerby and former coaches, AJ Amspaugh, Sara Kloosterman (Northen Illinois), Erika True (Indiana State University) and Woody Sherwood (Xavier). “They were both excellent youth players that exhibited outstanding drive, leadership and intelligence at a young age” said Tommy Berry, Director of Coaching for the Cutters Soccer Club. “They were a joy to coach and be around and the club is very proud of their academic accomplishments.” Maggie and Emma are now coaching for the Cutters Soccer Club working with the 01 Girls and passing on their love for the game. “It’s always very special when former players coach for the club. I’m thrilled they’re involved and providing a wonderful example for our young players”.

The Cutters’ 01 Red team won the Pike Fest tournament in Indy. Hosted by the Pike/Indy Burn soccer club the Cutters secured 1st place with victories over Fusion, Carmel, Westfield, and Southern Indiana.
Coach Darren Wright reported, “I’m very proud of the boys for going 4-0 in their first tournament ever. They worked hard and played well only giving up 4 goals. I would love to be able to take some of the credit for the victory, but after only 2 weeks of practice all of the credit has to go the boys, their parents, and the Jr. Cutters soccer program which did a great job of preparing the boys for their first taste of competitive club soccer. I’m excited about the rest of the season and looking forward to watching the boys develop and continue to grow together as a team.”

Congratulations to the 98 Boys Red and Coach Kevin Sparks and Peter Van Leusen for winning the Challenge Cup Championship. The Cup was hosted at Lawrence Park on June 11 & 12 and the team advanced to the final after their victory over St Francis 3-1 in the Semifinal at 8am on Saturday. Sunday’s Championship game was against a very good Fort Wayne Citadel opponent. The Cutters scored the lone goal of the match in first half to take a 1-0 lead into half time. In the 2nd half the 98 Reds were able to hold off Citadel’s possession game to seal the final victory.

Former Cutter’s president Mary Runnells has been selected as a finalist by the Indiana Soccer Foundation for the prestigious “Jay Fredrich Good of Soccer Award”. This award recognizes the extensive time and energy given to the game of soccer by the finalists. Mary has been a positive role model for other volunteers and participated in multiple facets of youth soccer throughout the community and state for many years. The Good of Soccer Award is the highest award that the Indiana Soccer Foundation presents and Mary is an extremely worthy finalist. Congrats to Mary!
The Indiana Soccer Foundation will announce the winner for the award at the Indiana Soccer Awards Dinner on January 29th, 2011 from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Marriott North Hotel in Keystone at the Crossing.
